Late last year, something odd—but kinda interesting—happened. Sightful tossed out its wild laptop idea (you know, the one with those AR glasses built right in). Instead, they switched lanes, aiming their efforts at crafting some AR magic for Windows users. Now, they’re rolling out this thing called Spacetop for Windows. So, your world becomes a private virtual workspace wherever you plop down.
Basically, like before, Spacetop hooks up with these XREAL AR glasses. But now, they’re playing the field, going after many AI-powered PCs from big names like Dell, HP, and Lenovo. It used to be that they were all about their “headless” laptop. Ran on this quirky SpaceOS. But, back in October 2024, they shouted “never mind” and refunded everyone for the Spacetop G1. It was supposed to cost a jaw-dropping $1,900. Ouch.
Apparently, their change of heart was all about those fancy neural processing units—NPU, for short. More juice, more efficiency, better battery life or something like that for AR apps.
So here’s the kicker. They dropped a Spacetop Bundle for $899. You get these XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses (normally $699). Oh, and a 12-month subscription to Spacetop (so it’s nice of them to bundle that in, right?), which renews annually at $200. Also, just for fun, you can grab some extra optical lenses. Need glasses with prescriptions? They’ll do that for you—$50 for single vision and $150 for the fancy progressive stuff.
Now, if you’re wondering about what laptops to use with this, they’ve got a few suggestions. Think Dell XPS Core Ultra 7, HP Elitebook, Lenovo Yoga Slim, you get it. But seriously, that list isn’t set in stone. Any device with Intel Core Ultra 7 or 9 processors should do the trick. Exciting stuff, huh?
Oh, and did I mention the features? Tons of them. You’re getting seamless app access, some cool workspace maneuvers like pushing and sliding with keystrokes, and even a travel mode—so you can look busy on the go. The display adjusts to lighting, works inside and out. And despite these being just glasses (weighs like 83g), they magically turn into a massive 100” display. I’m not sure how that feels in real life, but it sounds grand.
And the story behind it all? Sightful’s got over $61M in backing. Started by some folks from PrimeSense, Magic Leap, and Broadcom. They’ve set up HQ in Tel Aviv, but got places in Palo Alto, New York, and Taiwan too. Want to dive deeper? There’s more on Spacetop for Windows out there. Go take a peek.
