Oh man, where do I even start with this? Okay, so lately, those Full Motion Video (FMV) games—yeah, the ones nobody really talked about for a while—are kinda making a comeback. Remember those choose-your-own-adventure books? It’s like someone took that and smashed it with some indie filmmaking on a budget. Weird mix, right? Anyway, typical chaos ensues. There’s The Shapeshifting Detective, a whodunit deal. Plus, you’ve got Not for Broadcast, which cracks me up every time. And now, Dark Rift Horror is throwing their hat into the ring with Dead Reset. Spooky stuff.
So picture this: Cole Mason, our main guy, just wakes up face-down on some space station floor. (I’m already dizzy just thinking about it.) He’s like, yanked to his feet by a guard—yeah, no rest for the wicked here—and they drag him to this operating table. There’s a patient, and get this, she’s got some kinda growth. Gross, right? And Cole’s gotta do surgery at gunpoint. Total nightmare. You’ve got these moments to decide what Cole should do—like should he grab the gun or just bolt? I chickened out and went with surgery, and bam! Alien blasts out of the patient, slashes everyone. Real horror movie stuff.
But plot twist—he’s in a time loop. Yeah, like, groundhog day but way bloodier. Played through the first chapter, dying and re-dying. Like, in one go, Cole loses an arm trying to use some ID-required gun. Total bummer. Somehow, I stumble onto a path where I don’t just die, and boom—the alien’s contained. End of chapter. Leaves you wondering, “Now what?”
The actors? Into it like a dog at dinner time. Sure, they fumble sometimes, like slipping on a banana peel, but mostly they nail it. They’re a bit chummy too fast—seriously, how does Cole bond so quickly? Guess they needed to keep things rolling. Horror films do push people together though, so there’s that. Oh, and the gore? Insane. Blood, guts, a mini alien that’s kinda silly but in a good way. And the gunshots—it’s like that old Area 51 arcade game helped choreograph the action scenes.
So ambling my way through Dead Reset? Weirdly fun. Gives you a peek into what’s brewing, like a pot of mystery stew. Cole and his buddies—props for the acting. What about that monster, though? Can’t wait to see what happens when it drops on Nintendo Switch come September 11th.
Catch ya later!
