Oh boy, summer’s here and I’m just melting faster than an ice cube on a grill. Hope yours is better, and if it is, it’ll probably get even brighter when you dive into this chaotic heap of XR tidbits and random tangents! Oh, and there’s a giveaway somewhere in here – don’t blink, or you might miss it.
## The Week’s Things That Happened (Or Didn’t?)
So, Luna’s been digging for treasure on Upload VR and found some grains about Quest’s maybe-future. Apparently, Horizon Home’s getting a revamp. Gone are the statuesque views – enter the lively, social buzz. Picture Horizon Worlds, just like home. Who thought turning your living room into a world portal zoo would be a thing?
Speaking of worlds, Horizon’s central plaza is getting a facelift. Sounds like “you are here” will feel more real, spotting your cozy corner from miles away. Event Arena’s also popping up – yep, another spot for unknown shindigs. And remember Horizon Hyperscape? It’s growing up into Horizon Photoreal, where your phone can scan worlds – a futuristic postcard gallery.
But hey, don’t tattoo these updates just yet. Luna’s crystal ball is just a datamine, and these might poof into oblivion before Meta Connect even whispers about them.
## Glasses, Gloves, and Gadgets
Now for Brilliant Labs – they’re cooking up new smart glasses, teasing us with announcements at ungodly hours (10 am PT, July 31). If history repeats, expect something open for play and pretty fashionable. Bobak Tavangar, the cofounder, will be hanging out on Reddit to chat, so poke him if curiosity bites.
And then there’s Sharp. They tossed us a VR controller prototype – doesn’t look like a typical gadget, more like a glove with its tracks off. It vibrates and wiggles, trying to pull you deeper into VR. At about $680, only time will spill if it’s worth more than a fleeting glance.
Meta’s wristband thingy – it picks up your finger flutters and wrist twirls to control stuff. It’s like magic but techier, with interactions that feel as natural as scratching an itch.
Google might be showing off shiny smartglasses, yet with microdisplays at a yield that could make you cry – it’s more lab-dreamy than shop-ready. Details are foggy; best grab popcorn and stay tuned.
## Games, or Whatever They’re Calling ‘Em Now
VR Games Showcase is making a return. It’s kind of summer 2025, on August 12th – don’t ask me why time’s a mess. Expect big flashes like Triangle Factory’s Forefront and minor indies in the pre-show momentarily not-forgotten.
Meanwhile, if you’re clutching a Pico headset, take advantage of the summer sale slashing up to half prices till August 10. Flashy, right? Just hold onto your wallet.
Oh, and there’s a game called Putt Window that lets you swing a real club in your living room. Just dodge the vase – virtual golf can’t fix that mess.
## Studios and Sad Farewells
Here comes a bummer. TxK Gaming, the studio behind Dungeon Full Dive, is closing shop. They raised $250K for building a dream, only to find out that funds can evaporate. At least they’re letting more folks dabble with their toolkit for free now. Makes you wonder why Kickstarter dreams sometimes crash hard. VR’s just costly, isn’t it?
## Other Quirky Stuff You Might Care About
Sound Bath, a chill-out experience is coming from the TRIPP folks. And while Eldramoor: Haven in the Mist brought in $170K, the project might be biting off more than it can chew. Elsewhere, Billie Eilish teased some 3D concert vibes, and Rec Room Plus subscribers got a snazzy AI pal. Oh, and you can jam to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” on Beat Saber. Got Spotify on Quest? Handy.
Reviews? Yep, there’re tons. Pirate adventures, emotional stories, and action-packed quests. Just hope you find joy among my scribbled notes.
## Wild Bits ‘n Pieces
Xiaomi glasses, Viture’s smart specs, or if you’re tinkering with APKs, there’s a VR Android File Manager making life easier. Pimax, Bhaptics reviews, Rayneo Air 3S teardowns, and VR training guidance – it’s all a mishmash of chaos.
## Partners, News, and the Like
BEATABLE rhythm game – out of Early Access with new goodies. Check it out, buy it, or snag one of those elusive free keys I lost in here somewhere.
My buddy Medhi Sam dropped a Unity trick post worth support. Shaders, bending worlds – sounds like mischief.
And there’s a sparkling FM DUO VR camera, filming up to 12K and live streaming all fancy.
## The Personal Plea
Folks in Ukraine could use more help than I need sponsors. Seriously, the Red Cross needs your support. Before I get sappy, shoutouts to my Patreon patrons. Your kindness helps more than my ramblings ever could.
So there you have it (I think?), a wildly scattered journey through XR happenings with a sprinkle of questionable coherence. Until next time – or maybe not. Who can tell with all this virtual space warping?
