Alright, so here we are. Let’s talk about waiting – because that’s what us Ecco the Dolphin fans are doing, right? Waiting and dreaming. Seriously, it’s like hanging out at the edge of a pool, hoping a dolphin jumps out. Maybe next April? We’ll see. But yeah, Ecco fans – you’re not alone, wishing you could just swim through that pixelated ocean again. Unless, of course, you smash against those darn challenges. I mean, why make it so hard? Like, all I wanted was to play as a dolphin, but I guess I got tricked into a brain workout. Crazy games, huh? Especially Ecco: Defender of the Future. Can we talk about how it’s 3D now – third dolphin view, ha! Mind you, the original designer, Annunziata, wasn’t behind this sequel. Still, it holds the vibes of the original. Creepy but comfy music… eerie creatures lurking… and that learning curve that feels like being thrown into the deep end with a splash of ‘good luck!’
And here’s a bummer – as great as it was, I’ll probably never be a dolphin. Saddest thing, right? Actually, Annunziata said something along those lines – like, dreaming of life as a dolphin, because, why not? Dolphins are smart, I guess. Xbox Wire quoted him saying he imagined a game where you live as one. He picked dolphins ’cause they’re kinda like us, he thinks – better than whales, at least, in his view.
Oh, here’s more brain food: Annunziata thinks us gamers – we’re the brainy bunch. Something about gamers having these ‘higher IQs’ and love that transforms the world or whatever. Plus, there’s the game’s whole angle on teaching us to care for the ocean. I mean, bonus points for trying to save the real world while we play, right? And being a Pacific Islander, he’s got that ocean love baked in, it seems. Makes you think about how connected we could be to the sea, living in harmony instead of just being takers.
Now, they’re working on sprucing up the originals – yep, Annunziata and the OG team. Remasters are on the way, with, drumroll… no actual dates yet. The suspense is real. A new Ecco game’s in the works too, but who knows when that’ll surface. So yeah, just keep waiting by the pool edge.
