Oh boy, here we go. So, Nintendo got real with us, right? They basically said, “Hey, heads up, our new Switch 2 might get a bit toasty if you’re playing outside and it’s hotter than, like, a summer barbecue.” They’re talking about temperatures needing to chill between 5 and 35°C. I mean, thanks, Nintendo, but who’s checking the weather before a gaming session?
They dropped this nugget of wisdom on X (Twitter, whatever we’re calling it now). Lately, in Japan, it’s been hotter than a jalapeño. So, they’re like, “Maybe keep the gaming indoors, folks.” Makes sense, but tell that to someone on a beach day with their console.
Apparently, some folks already started boiling with their Switch 2 in, get this, July. Fans whirring like an overworked AC, consoles crashing mid-game. Someone said it got so hot, it was like holding a cup of fresh coffee. And we’re not just talking about playing Clash of the Titans-type games. Nope, even Splatoon was causing meltdowns. I didn’t see that coming.
Now, if you’re living somewhere like the Sahara or strolling around the Middle East, this heat problem is a big deal. It’s like, do you game, or do you roast? Choices, choices. And with the planet turning up its thermostat, are we going to see more gamers stuck in their ice boxes just to enjoy Mario Kart?
You gotta wonder, though. The Switch 2 is shining with some high-tech bling, but stack it against the likes of the GPD Win 5 or the Ayaneo Next 2, and it’s not exactly the Hulk of handhelds. Yet, we still love it for those sweet exclusives, right? Nintendo dives into big-name games, and I guess the poor little console’s out here sweating bullets just trying to keep up.
Anyway, if you’re looking for more hot takes (hopefully not as hot as the Switch 2), you might wanna hit up Tom’s Hardware on Google News. Just saying.
