Okay, here we go — I just gotta share this. It’s wild to me how another Like A Dragon game is sneaking onto the Nintendo Switch 2. Remember the Wii U days? Yeah, good times. And then boom, Switch with Yakuza Kiwami — and now, yep, Yakuza 0 is about to drop. I got a sneak peek, which was… well, pretty rad.
Yakuza 0 hit the big 1-0 in Japan. This thing’s a decade old! Can you believe it? It launched on PlayStation 3 and 4 back in the day. Switch 2 is calling it a director’s cut — even though the director’s MIA, which is just… ironic or something. Anyway, new stuff includes English voices, extra scenes, and some mode called Red Light Raid.
Spent about 45 minutes fiddling around with it while docked. And guess what? Smooth as butter. Seriously, like 60 frames per second kinda smooth. Not sure it’s in 4K, but it’s definitely sharp — 1440p at least. Asked a SEGA rep about HDR. Nope, not happening. Bummer, right?
If you’re new to Yakuza, start here. Really. It’s got everything: drama, humor, mischief. And those mini-games are mind candy — karaoke, arcade classics, batting cages — you name it. Oh, and 1980s Japan? Wandering around feels a bit like time travel. Played it first on PS4, but I’m ready to dive back in.
But — and it’s a big but — not totally jazzed about Red Light Raid. If you’re lousy at combat, join the club. It’s a survival mode, waves of baddies, a couple of gnarly bosses. Tried it solo, though you can drag along friends or AI, if that’s your jam. Picked Ginger Chapman first — think evil Chucky in human form. He’s got a knife and, well, that’s about it. Fun at first, then just… stabby-stabby-samey-samey.
Did better with Kazuma Kiryu, though. In this mode, you pick one fighting style and stick with it. Win a few battles, stack up cash, level up — you know the drill. Quick solo play was cool, but bring friends, or it’s like eating fries without ketchup.
Honestly, can’t wait for this director’s cut on Switch 2. Sure, played it before, but curious about the English dub. Plus, the Japanese option’s still there. Red Light Raid? Meh, maybe I’ll warm up to it once it’s out. Time will tell.
