Whoa, so, Bungie, right? The game developer everyone loves – or, well, mostly. They just found themselves in a sticky spot. Apparently, some art in their new game, Marathon, was more “borrowed” than “created.”
I was scrolling through this Discord post (because where else do things happen these days?), and Bungie’s basically, “We’re diving into this art mess,” thanks to Fern “4nt1r34l” Hook. She’s on Twitter like, “Hey, that’s my 2017 art on your game posters!” Honestly, she’s not wrong to be a tad miffed. I mean, imagine working on something that long only to see it… well, poof! It’s everywhere, and not even a pat on the back.
Bungie’s like, “Yeah, umm, the dude who did this? Not with us anymore.” Which is classic, right? Blame the guy who’s not around. They said they found this artist’s old textures mixed in there. How does that even happen? Like, who’s checking these things?
It wasn’t even on their radar, apparently. The art team, clueless. Bungie’s now all about making amends with Fern. They say they’re serious – like, “as a heart attack” serious.
So yeah, they’re planning this whole asset deep-dive, especially on that one artist’s stuff. They’re gonna set up these tighter checks. Makes you wonder if they had any checks before. Obviously, someone wasn’t paying attention.
Anyway, they say they really value their artists—I hope they mean it this time. Google, are you listening? ‘Cause this is real talk.
