Alright, so here’s a thing. Google might be about to drop some new smart glasses at their big developer shindig, Google I/O. Seriously, I don’t even know if they really want to give Ray-Ban’s Meta Glasses a run for their money or if they’re just bored. But anyway.
So, I saw this clip—had to squint and rewind a few times. Sameer Samat, the bigwig of whatever they call the Android cabal now, had these specs on. Didn’t even mention ’em, just teased us like a cat with a toy. Typical. He said something about showing off more slick Android demos. What “slick” means here, only he knows.
I did my best high-tech detective work—forget CSI, it’s more like “pause the YouTube video and zoom in.” Pretty sure these glasses look like Ray-Bans. They had this camera thing on the left side. Maybe it’s for spying on cats or just regular selfies. Who knows.
There’s also this little LED light above the camera. Maybe to tell folks, “Hey, I’m filming you right now!” or something. Feels like they stole the idea from Ray-Ban, but maybe that’s just me being suspicious. Speaking of which, those arms on the glasses? Chunky like a bad 80s sweater. Probably stuffed full of batteries and who-knows-what processors. Something to do with Android XR, whatever next-gen stuff that means.
Oh, and there’s a weird slit near Sameer’s ear — or maybe it’s a button. Might be for sound. But hey, it could be anything. Like seriously, you never know.
Meanwhile, Apple’s not sitting around either. They’re rumored to be in the smart glasses game too, cooking up some processors just for this. I think Bloomberg said so. Or was it someone else? It’s hard to keep track with all these tech rumors flying about.
But yeah, Google I/O is happening soon—May 20th to 21st if you wanna set some alerts. They might spill the beans on Android XR or just dazzle us with some wild ideas. You can catch the whole spectacle live on YouTube, starting on the 20th at 10 AM Pacific Time. That’s Californian time, in case you’re as geographically challenged as I am.
And there we have it. Not much else to jabber about. Until the show starts, we’re left to our imaginations and blurry screenshots. Fun times!
