Hitman World of Assassination fans will have to wait a bit longer, as the PlayStation VR2 version has been pushed back to next year.
Originally, IO Interactive had us all excited during September’s State of Play by announcing that the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy would be ready for PlayStation VR2 by this December. However, the release has now been rescheduled for March 27, 2025. The developers explained that the extra time is needed to fine-tune the game and add some fresh features, such as active manual reloading.
The team shared more about this decision on PlayStation Blog, explaining the reasoning behind the new timeline.
“First and foremost, we need to discuss the change in our launch date. Initially targeted for December 2024, we’re now eyeing a March 27, 2025 release for Hitman World of Assassination on PS VR2. Changing the date wasn’t an easy call; we fully recognize the excitement and anticipation for bringing Hitman to PS VR2 after the announcement.”
“Our utmost goal is to deliver an exceptional experience that aligns with the high expectations of our players. This additional time allows us to sharpen every detail, making the game experience as refined and engaging as possible, plus it lets us include some extras we were eager to offer for the PS VR2 edition, like the new active reloading feature.”
This marks the third venture of IO Interactive into the world of VR with its iconic series, following earlier launches for Quest and PC VR/PSVR. The new release encompasses all the major levels from the reinvented trilogy and comes packed with support for dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay, along with updated controls and gameplay innovations.
On PlayStation VR2, players can look forward to what’s termed “positional interactions,” urging them to physically perform actions like mixing a drink or handling a keycard, rather than just pressing a button. This dynamic gives quest items a tangible feel, enhancing the immersive experience as you physically engage with the game world.
Set to launch on March 27, 2025, Hitman World of Assassination will be available on PlayStation VR2. Current owners of the game on PS5 can enjoy this new dimension through a $10 upgrade pack.
