Whoa, hey there! So, guess what? Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is back after, what, 20-ish years? Launched originally in 2002—like when flip phones were all the rage—this sequel to the legendary Onimusha: Warlords is hitting us with more of that feudal Japan vibe. It’s all about this guy, Jubei Yagyu. Remember him? No? Well, he’s our samurai hero out for, yep, you guessed it, revenge.
Zooming forward 10 years from Warlords—Nobunaga Oda, this super demon dude, is all powered up and ready to rule Japan, and naturally, he kicks things off by wrecking Jubei’s village. Bummer, right? So, Jubei’s like, “Nope,” and decides to take the fight to Nobunaga. Along his journey, he bumps into four potential pals. It’s like a road trip but with more swords and less snacks. You can win these folks over with gifts—who knew samurais were so into gifting? Anyway, give them stuff they like, and they’ll fight with you or maybe open up new story paths.
Gift-giving is like an art form here. You buy them, find them, or maybe even stumble across them. Each buddy has their own wishlist, so pay attention or risk an awkward moment, like gifting socks at Christmas. There’s even a shot to play as your favorite ally, but that’s if they really, really like you.
We even got word from the cool folks at Capcom on their top pick gift reactions. Who knew game devs had insider gift tips, right?
Meet Ekei Ankokuji. You’d think a Buddhist priest would be all zen and serious. Nope. Imagine a priest who loves money and parties. Yep, give him something like a musical instrument or fan, and he’s ready to bust a dance move.
Magoichi Saiga? Total bookworm and chief of some gun team. Loves books but wants them in bulk, not singles. So, for anybody wondering what to get him, maybe wait till you’ve got a whole library.
The youngest guy, Kotaro Fuma, is this ninja who’s not into old school stuff. Tried to give him a Tengu mask and he was like, “Hard pass.” Oops.
Ah, then there’s Oyu. Covered head-to-toe in Western armor and a bit of a mystery. Her gift reactions? Let’s say she’s iffy about getting wisdom books like The Art of War.
Magoichi again, ‘cause why not? If you hand him raw fish and wasabi in the right order, his reaction is priceless. Thank Capcom’s Kosuke Tanaka for that little gem.
And finally, Ekei—yeah, again. He’s probably bald or sensitive about it, ‘cause hair stuff makes him twitchy. Embarrassing gift fail? Maybe.
So yeah, lots of stuff to check out and experiment with in this reimagined adventure. Dive in, play around, and reclaim your path in the remastered version, now out on Xbox One and Series X|S. Go, have a blast, gift like a pro!
