Alright, so, I stumbled upon this weird thing the other day — Xbox might actually be cozying up to virtual reality. Yeah, I know, right? After all that noise about them keeping their distance, we might just see an Xbox-branded Meta Quest headset. Which honestly blew my mind. It popped up in this deleted thread on X (you know, formerly Twitter — and I still struggle with that name change). Anyway, some user named @bmfshow got a snapshot before it vanished.
And just the other day, I was thinking about this rumor I heard… it’s like, Windows Central mentioned something about an Xbox VR headset last year. And now? Boom. Rumor has it, it’s dropping on June 24 for $399. Will they really do it? Who knows. It’s kinda like that distant third cousin you hear about but never meet. And Xbox just teased this thing with Asus, too. The Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X — handheld gaming devices or whatever. Meanwhile, Project Kennan, their own console gizmo, apparently just got thrown under the bus. Classic, right?
Okay, so Gamesandwich.com has this scoop — the Xbox-branded Quest 3S is supposedly gonna make a surprise entrance the same June day, no less. Price same as the non-Xbox model, $399. Comes with nifty stuff like an Elite Strap, an Xbox controller, and a trial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. You know what that means… games galore, if you’re into that whole thing.
This makes me chuckle a bit because Microsoft’s head honcho for gaming, Phil Spencer, was like, “VR? Nope, nobody wants that!” back in 2019. Yet here we are, with their marketing pivoting towards Xbox Cloud Gaming and this “This is an Xbox” tagline or something. Xbox games have sneaked into VR on other Meta Quest gadgets via cloud gaming, so maybe that’s how we’re rolling here too. Anyway, if you’re anything like me, this whole “gaming on anything with a screen” concept is a bit… I don’t know, adventurous?
So, Xbox keeps branching out, from the trusty consoles to PCs to… practically anything with a pulse, it seems. Mobile, TVs, VR thingamajigs, handhelds. It’s like they want to be everywhere. And you know what? Maybe they will be. Or maybe we’ll be having this chat again in a year about Xbox holograms or something. Not a clue. Anyway, those are my ramblings. Take ’em or leave ’em!
