Okay, so, here’s the thing with FromSoftware’s latest bit of wizardry, Elden Ring Nightreign. They threw in these eight “Nightlord” bosses, which, honestly, are just mind-blowing. I mean, I’ve tangled with all of them—Libra, Creature of Night, is by far the wildest of the bunch. Picture this: a goat-headed demon lurking at the end of the Equilibrious Beast Expedition. Sounds bizarre, right? But stick with me.
So, you rock up to Libra’s lair, expecting chaos, but there he is—hood up, looking all human. Really throws you, that one. I thought, “Here we go!” and fired an arrow first chance I got. But nope, he just growls something about being “unwise.” Made me pause. Turns out, he wants a chat.
Yeah, a chat. Who sees that coming? He dangles all these weird deals in front of you, like trading levels for some epic weapon or juicing up both of your damage output. My favorite? You gain levels, but every time you swig a healing flask, whoops, another level gone. You could just skip the deals, but come on, where’s the thrill?
Anyway, once everyone makes up their mind, the fight fires up for real. Libra morphs into his true monstrous form, and let’s be honest, things get pretty wild. His magic? It piles on Madness, which messes you up big time if you don’t dodge. The whole arena turns into a dizzying mess of glowing glyphs, and you’re thinking, “How the heck do I dodge all this?”
But here’s a weird trick: those golden crystals scattered by his magic? Snag ’em, and they heal you a bit plus ease the Madness. Never seen something like that in a fight before. It’s a nod to some crazy Dionysian chaos, less about destruction for destruction’s sake. Really clever, actually.
Now, there’s this quirky feature—he’s vulnerable to Madness too. So, if you hit him with enough, he flips out. He goes on a rampage but dodge his blows, and boom, you’ve got a window to hit back big time. Kinda poetic, isn’t it? Maybe not.
Even if you don’t have Madness-imbued gear, you can still rile him up. Libra gets into these meditative zones mid-battle, with glyphs swirling all around him. You gotta smash those glyphs fast before he buffs himself, or, you can do big damage to break his shield. Either way, if you mess him up during this, he gets frenzied again.
Libra stands out, no question—stylistically and gameplay-wise. He’s a messed-up mix of chaos and strategy. And despite the other seven bosses doing their thing, I keep coming back to Libra. There’s just something about the dance of battling him, you know?
And yeah, Elden Ring Nightreign’s got its hiccups—like one map, not a ton of enemy variety—but it’s a fresh spin on the whole Soulsborne thing. If you’re itching for that hardcore grind, it’s a steal at thirty-four bucks if you snag the promo on Newegg. Xbox or PC, doesn’t matter. Grab it, dive in. You’ll either love it or, well, lose a few controllers in frustration. But isn’t that just part of the charm?
