Okay, so hey everyone! It’s been seriously awesome hearing how pumped y’all are about Stadium. Watching everyone dive into it—man, the creativity’s off the charts. I mean, not that we didn’t think you’d pull off something wild, but still, totally impressive, right?
Anyway, before I totally lose track here, I wanted to chat a bit about where Stadium’s been and where it’s heading. Guess a little background never hurt anyone. Plus, I’m kind of a sucker for those “Past, Present, and Future” titles. Makes me feel all organized, even if I’m not.
So, the Past, yeah?
Get this—Stadium wasn’t even a thing before Overwatch 2 hit the scene. My kiddo actually whipped up the first pitch for it! Had this whole big vision with a sample level and all. Fast forward, and I can’t help but think of them every time I’m knee-deep in a match. Kinda cool, right?
But those early days? Totally different beast. It was all about randomness, like an eight-team showdown where chaos ruled. You’d get these random upgrades and just kinda hope for the best. Planning? Forget it. It was like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle blindfolded. So we flipped the script a bit—now it’s more about strategy, making epic moves, and just feeling… balanced, ya know?
And the Present!
Balance is like, super important. The gang’s already tweaking things based on what y’all are saying and what the numbers are telling us. Fun fact? Stadium’s kinda sticking around way longer in playtime than we expected. Half of all Overwatch 2 play hours in the first week were just Stadium. Wild, huh?
We’re all ears when it comes to feedback. Data’s a biggie for us—definitely need to see what’s working and what’s not. Midseason balance patch is gonna be interesting, or maybe even sooner. Who knows.
Reddit AMA happened, in case you missed it, and we’re dropping more deets and data next week with a Director’s Take. Stay tuned, I guess?
Looking into the Future
So if Stadium’s your jam, buckle up. We’ve got loads planned. New Heroes, fresh maps, all sorts of funky game modes. The usual jazz from Overwatch but with a Stadium twist.
And there’s this roadmap we’re working on—it’s like, super extensive and shows what’s headed your way. Like, Freja’s joining very soon with the Season 16 midseason patch. Yeah, the meta’s gonna flip for sure.
Oh, and we’re experimenting with this "Quests" thing where you snag rewards by finishing objectives during matches. Keeps things fresh, right?
We’re also hooked on this whole building and sharing thing—like importing and exporting builds. Makes it easy to grab community ideas and run with them. Season 17’s when that drops.
Cross-Play’s been a hot topic. Yep, we hear ya. We’re thinking about an unranked setup so you and your buddies can team up, regardless of platform. Fingers crossed on that one.
Wrapping Up
Before I wander too far off topic, huge thanks for sticking with us. Stadium’s not taking away from Overwatch’s other modes. It’s just adding a new layer of coolness to everything. Season 18 is gonna be insane, trust me. Go have a blast with Stadium, and, as always, let’s keep making this game epic for everyone.
