If you’ve stumbled upon a peculiar glitch in Destiny 2 lately, don’t fret—Bungie is intentionally leaving this one untouched.
Video games stand apart from other forms of media in a number of ways, and one of the most distinctive is their propensity for bugs and glitches. Perhaps the closest parallel might be live theater, where unexpected mishaps can occur, but even that isn’t quite the same due to the fundamental nature of games. Sometimes, little quirks sneak into games and developers decide to roll with them. Take Celeste, for instance, where players discovered certain spike-laden walls had narrow, pixel-wide passages perfect for a dash. The devs didn’t just leave it at that; they added a custom animation to acknowledge this little trick, which is pretty cool! Now, what Bungie is doing with Destiny 2’s latest bug isn’t quite as involved, but it’s showing some love for it nonetheless.
Recently, since the Heresy expansion launched, players started to notice something unusual. Class-specific exotic glaive weapons like the Edge of Intent, the Edge of Concurrence, and the Edge of Action could suddenly be wielded by any class. Bungie has actually seen “some great celebrations with the removal of these constraints,” as they mentioned in their blog post last week.
“Our initial instinct was to fix this issue because we cherish the unique class-based experiences in Destiny, and losing class locks kind of muddles that,” Bungie stated. “For example, it’s a bit odd to see a Warlock or Hunter deploying a mini-bubble or a Titan swiftly dashing around like a ninja. But after some team discussions, we’ve decided to just embrace it. This is one of those cases where a glitch turns into a feature.”
However, Bungie did point out that some of the animations might appear off-kilter since these combos weren’t originally intended. They also mentioned that “class-based Glaives open up fresh buildcrafting possibilities,” and they plan to monitor how these Glaives perform across all classes moving forward.
Bungie clarified that it won’t routinely adopt every quirky bug as a new feature, but this one seemed “appropriate.” So, while you might be tempted to wish for future glitches to be similarly embraced, keep in mind that not every weird bug will find such support (though you might secretly hope otherwise).
